I have been seeing neurologist Dr Kevin Kahn for my migraines for many years and been on many different types of preventive and acute prescription medicines and supplements. My migraines originally started because of chronic sinus infections but recently shifted to changes in my environment and weather changes. After a move to a new home in Janurary of 2014, I started having migraines more often and they were a lot worse than they had been. I had a severe headache or migraine every day for two months. My doctor switched me to a different preventive medicine and this seems to calm my migraines to only a few a month, I still had daily headaches, but was still not where we wanted to be.
Dr. Kahn said that I might benefit from seeing a nutritionist because of all my allergies; I may have some food allergies or intolerances that may be triggering my migraines as well. He said he had been working with a certain nutritionist that did LEAP testing and had had much success with the patients he had sent to her. So in April of 2014 I started with Julianne Koritz. She started by doing some blood work as a starting point to help determine what foods and chemicals my body reacted to the most. Once those results were in, she made an elimination diet specifically off the results of the blood work. Within three weeks, my migraines/headaches had significantly subsided and I lost a significant amount of weight (went from size 8 to 2).
Now this diet is not for sissies, you have to be dedicated to improving your health and wellness through this dramatic change in your lifestyle. But I have been on this diet for almost two and a half years and I cannot explain the impact it has had on my life. In the past two years I have had maybe four migraines! One of these was actually from a food I tried to add back to my diet, but the rest were from weather changes or stress headaches. I have improved my health, lowered my cholesterol, and even my allergies are vastly improved while on this diet. I was able to work out in the yard for two days in a row without a headache. if I had done this three years ago I would have a sinus infection and a migraine. It is amazing to me the difference this diet/treatment has improved my quality of life. I am doing so well that in April of 2016 my neurologist has taken me off my preventive medicine and I am still migraine free for almost three months now. There is no way I could have done this on my own accord. I have recommended Julianne Koritz and this LEAP diet to my friends struggling with health issues such as migraines, thyroid and other issues that are very dependent on diet. This program, for me, was LIFECHANGING!!!
